Week 12, Day 3

The Americans were in disbelief as to what was going on with the Jews in Germany. It was their disbelief that was the reason to why they didn't assist the Jews as much as they could. They found it hard to wrap their head around the idea that a race was being extinguished by one German force. This denial kept them from helping out since the beginning.

Week 12, Day 2

The Blitzkrieg battle, or lighting war, was more of an on going strategy rather than an actual event. The Germans were the one's that used this method and it won them many battles. What happens during this is a concentration of power and this concentration of power penetrates the country that is being attacked. This makes it hard for the defending country to protect themselves because it is an all out force that is attacking them. The "Blitzkrieg" battles happened in the invasion of Poland in 1939 and in the invasion of the Soviet Union, 1941.
The Battle of Dunkirk was a part of the battle of France and in Dunkirk, it was more of an evacuation and defense of British and allied soldiers. Germany was coming and from the looks of it they were already going to win. As a response the allies tried to do everything they could to save as much men as they could from Dunkirk. They sent all sorts of craft to go and carry the troops. This evacuation was looked as a miracle to many since they were able to evacuate so many.

Week 12, Day 1

Island Hopping was a strategy that the U.S. used when they went to the Pacific to liberate the Philippines. The main idea and key point to Island Hopping was capturing the most important islands. The term "hopping" is used because it is a continuous capturing of islands from the air. D-Day was also approached by the air but it was different than "Island Hopping" in that it wasn't a spread out attack and how it was more of a concentrated assault onto the land. Both events were similar in the arrival of attack but differed greatly

Week 11, Day 1

With the Great Depression now over the coming of WWII gave opportunity to many jobs. During the war industries opened their doors and most of what was being made was for the war. There were many new factories manufacturing weapons and other things for the military and this gave way for new jobs for many Americans. By 1943, six million women were working jobs in the workforce. This is where "Rosie the Riveter" came in as a symbol for women during WII. She was a mythical heroine and a sign of hard work from women.

Week 10, Day 4

Since America has joined the war I have been subject to discrimination and inhumane treatment. I am a Japanese American living in California. I was having a peaceful life up until the moment that Pearl Harbor was attacked; from that day forward I sensed that things weren’t right at home. The U.S government has now put me in a concentration camp and this infuriates me knowing that I am just as American as any other in this nation, I was born here and this treatment just isn’t fair.

Week 10, Day 3

There were many things that led the US to join the war. There was a lot of provocation from Japan as early as Dec. 1937 when they sunk an American gunboat, the Panay, in Chinese waters. And the attack on Dec. 7, 1941 on Pearl Harbor provided further reason to go to war with Japan. Overseas, Britain was also a weight on our backs. They were being attacked by Germany and many Americans insisted that we help Britain. Germany made it easier for us to go to war when they sunk some of our ships with their U-boars in Sept. 1941.

Week 10, Day 2

Word has reached across the ocean that Hitler and his Nazi Germany have invaded Poland. We America have not picked sides yet and our friends, France and Britain, are in great danger. I believe that we must go forth and join the Allies in a fight against the Axis powers. Since the Soviet Union signed a nonaggression pact with Germany, Hitler is free to take over the rest of the Western hemisphere of Europe if he so pleases and we must prevent this from happening. Adolf Hitler’s ignorance of the Treaty of Versailles poses danger to our homeland. He is a madman and he will take the US without warning if we don’t stand up for our countries off shore

Week 10, Day 1

Wilson's idea of "peace without victory" was a concept that was simple but to unrealistic. What this idea meant was that we should seek a compromise or "peace" instead of finding a way to win a war. Wilson inputted this idea when he began the negotiations in the Treaty of Versailles in France. Wilson's idea was to idealistic at the time unfortunately. He wanted for all the countries to come to an agreement instead of going to more losses of men and money to be a clear victor. This concept would have let countries come to a compromise and let each one get a fair share of what they wanted. This idea was a great one but it was to difficult to accomplish when not everyone was on board.
